NPBid has finally got our auction up and running! This has taken a lot of time, hard work, and dedication. We completed taking pictures of all of the items, created flyers for Twitter, and now have a timeline for the auction. We have already begun the auction on Wednesday, May 8th, and the auction will be completed by Friday, May 17th! We have had around 45 bids overall, and plan on getting a lot more! So far, we have raised almost $200 for Riley in just the first two days of the auction! This auction exceeded our expectations and we couldn't be any happier! We don't have an exact goal for the amount of money we intend to raise, but we are very content with what we are sitting at currently. Pictured below is one of the flyers that we created. The google sheet and google form method that we have been using has worked out tremendously. At first, we were very curious as to if it would work or not, but it has been going great so far! As of now, we are content with the amount of items we have in the auction. Later on through the week, just to keep the auction alive, we may add other items that our targeted audience may be interested in. We are not sure if we will add these items yet, but this is our next plan of action. We decided to not tweet everyday so that we are not forcing NPBid content into everyone's Twitter timeline everyday. However, we are planning on tweeting something out today, letting everyone know that there is only a week left to get this awesome gear! As long as the excel sheet and google form method continue to work, NPBid is in great shape to finish off this year's auction strong! Below is a picture of the google sheet with the current leading bidders of each item. The part of the column that is blank under "current bid" means that the item has not yet been bid on. Currently, the New Palestine gear has been the most popular, which was expected.

NPBid has been very busy recently. We've been taking a lot of pictures of the items that we plan to resell. We have finally set up our website. Our website consists of a google sheet with the item, the starting bid, the current bid, and the link to the item. We have been setting up each individual google form (example) for each of the items. This is where the person will place their name, phone number, email address, and their bid. NPBid will then update each item's price twice a day. We have still not figured out what times we will be updating the prices. NPBid has not yet finished all of the google forms, but we will most likely finish them by next week. NPBid's next plan of action is to finish setting up the online website by putting in the links to the google forms of each item. Once we finish setting up the google sheet and google forms, we plan on announcing the launch of the NPBid auction! We plan on doing this by posting an announcement on Twitter, as well as possibly making an announcement on NP120, NPHS's weekly news, and possibly making flyers to get people to buy our items. Everyday in class, we will be updating the prices of our items. We are not for sure on how long the online auction will last. We have predicted that it will go for at least a week. This is our plan right now, and we are not for sure if it will change.
We have taken a long break from NPBid and have been working on Breakout EDU. Finally, NPBid has found a solution to posting our donated items onto a website. We are also able to now keep 100% of the money we receive from people who buy our clothes. Then, we can donate all of the money to Riley Children's Hospital. We have decided as a group to create a google sheet that everyone can view. They will use this sheet to look at the various items we have as well as the prices of them. They will then click the link of the item they want to purchase, and a google form will open in a new window that has the picture of the item and a place for them to fill out their information. NPBid has been working on this for a couple of days now, and will continue to work on the website. We will be posting more clothes on the website as we continue to develop the project. NPBid has made an agreement to update the highest bids at 8am and 12pm everyday. We are not 100% sure if these are the exact times we are going to update the bids at, but we plan on updating the prices of the highest bidder at least 2 times per day. Our next idea is to continue taking pictures of the donated items and update the google forms with actual pictures of the clothing items. Right now, we only have pictures of a few shirts, and we have put random pictures in the google form where the picture of the clothing item will go. After we set up the rest of the google form, we will post the huge news on our Twitter account that we are now selling items. All we have to do is set up the rest of the website and take pictures of the remaining clothing items. Before Thanksgiving Break, NPBid applied for a grant from Target. NPBid took a business trip to the Super Target in Southport on November 13. When we arrived to Target, we brought the tax papers, as well as a printed out version of our request. We wrote a letter, similar to the Meijer proposal we did the week before. We took those papers to Target and gave them to guest service to be reviewed. I got in contact with a manager there, and she has not replied to my phone calls as of now. I know that she has received the grant request, but we have not yet heard back from her. While we were in Target, we walked around the store to get an idea of what we would purchase for NPBid. We could not meet the original person we contacted because they were hiring and training new employees that day. So, we turned in our papers, turned in our proposal, and walked around Target in order to get an idea of what to purchase. Update: Build-a-Bear Grant Unfortunately, NPBid got denied from Build-a-Bear. Build-a-Bear denied our request of 24 stuffed bears because they stated that they receive hundreds of requests, and can only fill a certain amount of them. Although we are upset that our request got denied, we are still trying to receive donations from other companies around Indiana. This is another example, just like the Kroger grant, that not everything always goes to plan, but we are sticking with the process in hopes of making a positive impact on the kids at Riley. NPBid Side Project Mr. Large has given NPBid the opportunity to begin a side project. We are still very dedicated to NPBid, but as of now, we are in a tough position. We are having a hard time finding a platform for our website, and we cannot find any more grants online where we have looked. So, as a group, we have decided to transfer our project over to a side project called a Breakout Box. A breakout box is constructed with a series of locks that students of a classroom have to unlock in order to solve a puzzle. The members of NPBid are making our own Breakout Box with a series of locks. We aren't certain as to what the puzzle is going to entail, but we are very excited to be starting this project. Our plan is to choose a classroom, create a puzzle with clues and locks, and then present it to a classroom so that they can then solve the puzzle. These puzzles are related to the classroom material that the class is learning about. We are very eager to learn how to create a Breakout Box and can't wait to begin our own.
After our success with Guedel Design, we began to look for other opportunities to apply for grants. The first one we found was Meijer. In order to receive a grant from Meijer, we had to write a proposal of what we wanted from the store. After we wrote our proposal, we took the proposal to the Meijer on East Washington Street. There, we obtained a form that I am holding (on the right) that required us to fill out basic information about our non-profit organization and why we do what we do. Later, on that same day, we filled out the form and returned it to Meijer. We have not yet received a response from Meijer, but we are hoping for some positive news! Kroger Grant Unfortunately, not every grant that we apply for is an immediate "yes". Just this past week, our team and I emailed Kroger to try and receive a grant. Just a couple of hours later, I received an email that denied our request of a donation. This denial was because Kroger had just donated to Riley, and did not have sufficient funds to support our cause. They were very generous, and although we did not receive a grant, we are still very thankful that Kroger considered our request! This just goes to show that just because you apply for a grant, doesn't mean that you will get every grant you apply for. Build-A-Bear Grant After Kroger declined our request, we decided to apply for a donation from Build-A-Bear. Build-A-Bear donates bears to non-profit organizations, and especially to non-profit organizations whose focus is on kids. Since our organization focuses on kids, we thought that this would be a perfect opportunity for us. We requested 24 stuffed bears from Build-A-Bear. We submitted this request yesterday, so we are still waiting on a response. We plan on personally giving the kids at Riley stuffed bears to make their day a little better. We believe that this donation would be the most important donation that we would receive. Guedel Design Results If you recall, in last weeks blog, NPBid partnered with Guedel Design. We continued to partner with them throughout the rest of the week, and raised a total of $354.30. We could not be more thankful for the opportunity given to us. If all goes to plan, we hope to partner with Guedel Design one more time during the Christmas Season. We had such a great time partnering with Guedel Design, and we would like to thank them again for the opportunity.
NPBid has made tremendous progress since the first blog post. We have received multiple items from various companies throughout the community. Team Image was the first company that we reached out to, and they were generous enough to donate five items to NPBid including different New Pal shirts and hoodies! Then, after our team picked up the items from Team Image, we tried reaching out to other companies. Hanover College was one of the colleges to respond to our request to receive various items from that college! We are currently making a deal with Hanover College so that they're able to send the items to us! Ball State University also replied to our request, and we are currently in the middle of a deal with them as well! We are also in the middle of a deal with UIndy! We have also received items from the Indiana Pacers, as well as a grant from Dick's Sporting Goods for $100 to spend on apparel! In the picture below, there are all of the students who received grants through their project. Our grant is included on the left, with the four students on the left being the four members of NPBid! With this grant, we bought seven shirts to go towards our cause! NPBid has been lucky enough to get the opportunity to partner with Guedel Design, who designs really awesome New Pal gear for the New Palestine Dragons football team! 15% of the proceeds from this week long sale go towards NPBid! The sale is lasting from October 14 to October 21! So far, NPBid has made $132.30 just from this sale! The sale is still going on for the rest of this week! NPBid has been making connections throughout the community, and is working hard to continue making these connections and building relationships! NPBid is a non profit auction website designed to sell donated items from various companies to raise money to go to Riley Children's Hospital. NPBid is a legacy project that we are starting back up. NPBay was the first, non profit auction website, started back in the early 2000s. NPBid will donate all of the money to Riley Children's Hospital at the end of the year. We hope to be named a Riley Miracle School by the end of the project. This project will be going on throughout the entire year. We began this project in August, and will finish in May. We hope to impact the community of New Palestine in a positive way and impact the lives of the children and workers of Riley Children's Hospital. We started this project by making a flyer of the basic background information about NPBid. After we created the flyer, we made the proposal word document that entailed the information we would need to give our pitch. After making the proposal, we made the pitch day PowerPoint. This PowerPoint was a key necessity to our project regarding the start-up. This pitch day allowed us to present our project idea to administrators and staff to get their feedback and put their feedback into action. It was really exciting to get to present in front of the administrators and staff! As of now, we are working on a website to be able to sell our donated items. We are currently creating a list of contacts that we will use to contact different businesses in hopes of receiving donations from them to help our cause. We have contacted one business already and have succeeded in receiving a few donations from them. We are going to continue to create contacts and contacting those contacts in order to help our cause.
